Hearing Tests, Why They Are Important

Yearly Hearing Tests Should be Part Of Your Regular Health Check-ups

Hearing loss is generally a slow process that isn't noticed by the person who suffers it. We have said before that hearing loss is insidious, and that really is a great word to describe it. The rate of hearing loss suffered by someone can vary dramatically from person to person. So there is no reliable rule of thumb for when you should get your first hearing test.

The Answer? Regular Check-ups

So if you have no reliable measure, it is important that you have your hearing checked on a regular basis. But why is this really important? Simply because of what we now know about the effects of untreated hearing loss.

The link between untreated hearing loss and more and more health problems is being uncovered on a monthly basis. There is one thing that is sure, if you want to stay mentally healthy, engaged and socially active, your ability to hear well is exceptionally important.

This simply means that being aware of your hearing, having it tested and protecting it or treating a problem is exceptionally important.

Wearing Hearing Aids? Then Regular Tests are Important

To get the very best from the hearing instruments you are wearing it is important that you attend at least yearly hearing check-ups. This allows us to ensure that the hearing devices are set for your current hearing loss and needs.

A hearing solution that was ideally programmed for you last year, may not be ideal today. Adjustment have to be expected and are important, there is a natural progression in hearing loss, wearing hearing aids protects your hearing from more noise induced damage. It slows hearing loss to a naturally occurring level, but it doesn't stop that process.

Treat Your Ears Like Your Eyes & Your Teeth

Your hearing is just as important as your eyes or your teeth, that's why yearly checkups are important. Coming to see us once a year will allow us to stay on top of any changes in your hearing.

If you are wearing hearing aids, it will ensure that your devices properly set to suit you. If you aren't, we can assess your hearing and let you know when there is any changes. In that way you can make educated decisions about hearing protection and any possible treatment.

So if you are looking for a hearing test in Edinburgh, why don't you give us a call.
