Reasons Why People Don't Wear Hearing Aids

What we do about them

We read a pretty good article recently by one of the Hearing Like Me Editorial Staff named Beverly. It detailed the top 5 most common reasons people don’t wear their hearing aids. We thought it was a great article and we decided to write our own detailing how we help people overcome these reasons. So, let's take a look at what the reasons were and our strategies for dealing with them.

Their hearing aids aren’t comfortable

Beverly pointed out that comfort can be a real issue, especially if the hearing aids are ill-fitted. We only use the most modern hearing aids available, they tend to be smaller, lighter and comfortable. Even the new behind the ear hearing aids are more comfortable with glasses because the cases are smaller and thinner than ever before.

When we provide in the ear hearing aids, we always ensure the impressions of your ear canal are taken carefully. This allows us to provide a hearing aid expertly built and customised to your ear. There can be nothing more comfortable than that.

Most importantly, we always make sure that we provide the hearing aids that you are comfortable wearing. Because if you aren't, you won't wear them.

Their hearing aids don’t meet their sound expectations

Beverly pointed out that sometimes hearing aids just don't meet people's expectations. We are very aware that hearing aids are a costly investment, so it’s important that you fell like it was a good investment. We are very careful to ensure that you pick the right hearing aids for you and your lifestyle. We explain honestly what you can expect from the level of technology that you choose.

We then work with you on an ongoing basis to ensure that the hearing aids deliver what you need in the situations you need it. That's why we are committed to offering the highest levels of hearing care.

Their hearing aids are too difficult to care for

So, as Beverly said, hearing aids are small, delicate technologies that need to be cared for to ensure a long life. Because they are exposed to sweat, water, ear wax, dirt and dust on a regular basis, it’s important to clean and dry them. Additionally, to keep most hearing aids working, the user always needs fresh batteries on hand.

One of the things that we take into account when making recommendations is your ability to take care of them. We base our choices on many factors including your dexterity and ability to handle the devices. For instance, if we think your ability to handle batteries maybe a concern. We may advise you to go for rechargeable hearing aids.

Their hearing aids are embarrassing

This still surprises us, we tend to forget that stigma still exists. Firstly, we think that addressing your hearing loss is not just a sensible thing to do but also a brave step forward. We are always very careful to take all of your concerns into account and we will always try to ensure your desire for discretion is met. Like I said earlier, the best hearing aid in the world is of no use to you if you are not comfortable wearing it.

Their hearing aids stopped providing a benefit

Beverly pointed out that as your hearing aids get older they may become less effective. This can be beacuse they are failing. However, it could be just because your hearing is changing. Again, this is another reason why we believe in delivering high levels of aftercare. So that we can re-programme the hearing aids if and when your hearing loss changes. Some small programming changes could ensure that you can hear as well as when you first bought them.

Don't let any of these five reasons put you off wearing hearing aids. We know that we can work with you to overcome them. If you are interested in exploring the latest hearing aids in edinburgh or Gullane, why don't you call us on 0131 629 1819 or contact us online now.
